Grosso Brings Decades of Digital Media Expertise to New Role to Accelerate Expansion of Intersection’s Products and Markets

New York, NYJuly 21, 2021 Intersection, the leading Out of Home media and smart cities technology company, today announced that Chris Grosso has been appointed as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Grosso brings a wealth of expertise to this role, having served as Intersection’s Chief Operating Officer since 2017, as well as in a number of senior leadership capacities across the media industry over the past 20 years.

As COO, Grosso played a critical role in developing Intersection’s business strategy, product portfolio, and operational capabilities over the last five years. He has been a key architect of the blueprint that drove industry-beating growth for Intersection before the pandemic and is now accelerating the company’s growth coming out of it.

An experienced media executive and business strategist, Grosso has a deep understanding of how to build and operate media businesses, helping companies adapt traditional business models to the digital world. Prior to his role at Intersection, Grosso held senior general management roles with AOL, NBC Universal, and Hearst. He also was one of the earliest members of McKinsey & Company’s digital media practice. Chris has a long track record building high-performing teams while working at traditional and digital media companies.

“Intersection is transforming cities through digitization. Whether it’s bringing high-speed internet or real-time customer communications to street corners and transit systems, our goal is to make cities better and build engaged audiences in the process,” said Grosso. “It’s truly an honor to lead our extraordinary Intersection team as it creates premier content and advertising networks in America’s great cities.”

“Chris understands the power of technology to transform both traditional media industries and life in cities, making him a perfect fit to lead this mission-driven company,” said Tim O’Shaughnessy of Graham Holdings, Chairman of Intersection’s board. “His deep general management experience at large technology-enabled media companies is exactly what the company needs to propel its next phase of growth.”

Grosso is taking over as CEO for Ari Buchalter, who has been named a Director on the Intersection board. Buchlater will remain CEO of Place Exchange, which was spun out from Intersection as a separate entity so it can focus on programmatic growth of the OOH category.

“Intersection now sits at the forefront of an exciting market opportunity, as cities emerge from the pandemic, consumers have more appreciation for the world outside their homes, and more advertisers look to Out of Home for its massive reach, unparalleled impact, and powerful targeting and measurement capabilities,” said Ari Buchalter. “Chris’ experience building technology-driven media businesses, his strategic vision, and his commitment to Intersection’s mission and team are why I am incredibly excited to see the company capitalize on this opportunity and grow under his leadership.”
